The Exchange: The Hopes + Fears of the Public Summer 2021

At Brainchild 2021, we hosted the Exchange - a place where visitors could share their worries for the future, interact with PPL PWR members and their projects, and then share something hopeful for the future.

Here's what the Brainchild going public had to say...

Worry... Learnt... Apocalypse Self-compassion I am a worried we can't get enough collective action to compbat climate change How to enage the public and find communities that care Can't convince enough of the world to save the planet in time We can all change and affect so many people throughout our lives that we can make a difference We will watch people all over the world die because of our inability to act Community! People will come together to fuck the government + look after each other No more snow Systemic inclusive change "Developing" countires will be hit the most Young people (of course) Sea level rise + land shortanges We'll be able to go back to a world before climate chnage Lack of clean water AI Ecosystem collapse ecological proliferation Nothing will be done Fight anyway That we shouldn't have children We become closer to nature and better human beings Fast fashion Good people People not being kind to each other or tthe larger natural world Conversations like this We're fucked I know I can do my bite + inspire others The palnet dying Hope we can group together Eerything Universal basic Income Tipping points leading to mass extinction That post-capitalism is regenerative Having to serve in Elon Musk's army Techno-fixes Running out of water The Power of Cheese I have no future There are people taking action Rising sea levels The international COVID lockdown is proof that large global behaviour is possible Theat apathy and inaction will make us all complicit in terrible human crisises That good people, with confidence and experience can change the world I fear that the people who have done the least to cause the climate crisis will suffer the most I hope that world leaders will wake the fuck up soon + do something I'm afraid of dying of heat Spending more time understanding the planet makes me feel more at home Deafeatism - mass feelings of powerlessness Creation of mass consciousness against the polluting + profitering elite Apocalypse I hope everything will be ok Apocalypse Community Nothing will be done Fight anyway Be forced to serve in Elon Musk's corporate army Using climate change as a tool to defeat capitalism Polarity Micron + macro awareness + empowerment I feel powerless to change the course of human/environmental history + the future, + I see the future as bleak People make the world how it is - surely ppl can chnage how it is. I hope we see the light People are too lazy to chnage Meeting so many people at Brainchild who care! Kids + Tech use Awareness Whether to bring more children into the world when we are past the point of no return That everyone in the world would care about theclimate + equality Bees going extinct
